2 Sep 1948
At Kamloops, B.C. on Friday, September 3, 1948 Ronald MacNeil formerly of Livingstone’s Cove, NS passed away after a lengthy illness. He was in his 88th year, and the last surviving member of the family of the late Donald MacNeil and Annie (MacInnis) MacNeil – the youngest of 13 children. After the death of his parents he went west in 1884 and although he had planned to do so, he never again returned to his birthplace. He was a veteran of World War 1, but with the exception of the years of his war service and two years on the Vancouver police force, his entire active life was spent at carpentry work. To mourn their loss he leaves a number of nieces and nephews, including John J. MacDonald of Morar, and Stephen MacDonald of Livingstone’s Cove. Others reside at Springhill NS and in the USA. The late Mr. MacNeil was a man of high Christian ideals and his friends were numerous. He died, fortified by the last rites of the Catholic Church of which he was a devout member. The Legion branch of Kamloops accorded him a military funeral which was largely attended. Buried in BC.
