Medical Receipts – MacInnis

Provincial Health Care was not in place in Nova Scotia until 1969, so before that people had to pay out of pocket to go to the Doctor or have any medical treatments. Attaching are a number of receipts associated to medical care from 1944 to 1962. The receipts are made out to Mr or Mrs. William MacInnis. Williams wife was Mary Christine, or Mrs. John W. MacInnis, who was Margaret MacInnis. We know in speaking with family that Mary Christine had a number of challenges with her health over the years. In a community where actual cash was scarce, it’s hard to imagine how these bills would have been paid! To see all the receipts, please download the .pdf file.
