The Casket – October 8, 1914
A PETITION is in circulation praying the Government to continue the privilege of shipping gravel from the shores of the Cove to the people of Ballantyne’s Cove. Public works in P.E. Island and elsewhere have taken large quantities of gravel from this Cove in the last few years. During the past summer some ten schooners have been engaged carrying the gravel to the public works on the East River, Pictou County. Some three or four thousand tons have been conveyed there. The labour thus furnished is appreciated by the workers at the Cove. Notwithstanding the amount taken, there is apparently no less gravel at the Cove, for the sea soon replenishes the supply, washing quantities up on the shore.
