General Superintendent, Canadian National Telegraphs, In Ottawa on Visit
Moncton, N.B., Dec 20 – Word has been received at Canadian National Telegraphs Headquarters here of the sudden passing in Ottawa General Hospital Saturday, of Robert M. MacMillan, 61, general superintendent Eastern region, following a heart attack, He was a native of Cape George, Antigonish County, N.S. The late Mr. MacMillan was in Ottawa on business when he was taken ill. Well known in telegraph and railway circles, he commenced his long telegraph career as night manager at Winnipeg in 1912, subsequently serving in the same capacity at Regina, Calgary and Edmonton. From 1917 to 1920 he served at Winnipeg as traffic superintendent, division superintendent and superintendent of railway service, successively. In 1925 he was moved to Montreal as district plant superintendent following which he was promoted to superintendent. Six years later he was appointed general superintendent Eastern regions, with headquarters at Toronto, in June 1923. Surviving are his widow, Lillian, and three sons, Robert, David and Ross, all of Toronto.
