1 Apr 1932 John H. MacPherson
MacPherson – At Malignant Cove April 1, John H. MacPherson, merchant, aged 59. IN his death the Gulf Shore lost a fine citizen, and the poor and troubled a warmhearted, loyal friend. For 25 years he was engaged in business in this county, during which time he was a semi-invalid and a great sufferer. Bearing his cross with Christian fortitude his outstanding characteristic was his concern for the welfare and happiness of others rather than for himself. Son of the late Angus MacPherson and Isabel MacIsaac, he was born at Springfield, this county, and as a young man spent several years in various parts of the States. Returning to his native heath he became associated with a friend now deceased in the mercantile firm of Boyd and MacPherson, at St. Andrew. Six years later he moved to Malignant Cove, forming a similar partnership with his brother, Dougald MacPherson. The firm, hearing the trade name MacPHerson Brothers, has served the community for sixteen years. A gentleman of highest integrity and sterling character and a devout member of the Catholic Church, he enjoyed the esteem of a wide circle of friends. Antigonish County, is the poorer by his passing. Surviving are three brothers; William of Vancouver; Dougal, Malignant Cove; and Alex H., of Upper South River. The remains were taken Sunday morning to St. George’s Church, Georgeville, where they remained until Sunday afternoon when the funeral services were held. Rev. J. W. Chisholm, P.P., officiated at church and grave.
