Holy Rosary Church, Ballantyne’s Cove, was crowded Sunday afternoon for the funeral Mass of Leo Albert Roberts, 75, who died May 15 in St. Martha’s Hospital. Born at Ballantyne’s Cove, he was a son of Israel and Mary (MacDonald) Roberts. He received his business education at St. Francis Xavier University. He was manager of St. George’s Co-op at Ballantyne’s Cove for about 35 years. He retired in 1967. He was a pioneer in the co-operative movement in Antigonish County and was particularly active in fishermen’s organizations. He was a former governor of St. Francis Xavier University. He is survived by his wife, the former Violet Burgey; six daughters, Yvonne (Mrs. Alex MacLean), Georgeville; Leona (Mrs. Vesty MacDonald), Toronto; Mary Alice (Mrs. Joe MacDonald), Ketch Harbor, N.S.; Donna (Mrs. Leo Grant), Thunder Bay; Charlotte (Mrs. Allan MacIsaac), Georgeville; Marguerite (Mrs. Joe Burette), Burlington, Ontario and three sons, Rankin, Montreal; Lawrence, at home; Allan, Canso; three sisters, Lillian (Mrs. Ken MacInnis), Mary (Mrs. Irving Hardy), and Alixe (Mrs. Neil Campbell), all of Detroit; and 30 grandchildren. Burial was in Holy Rosary parish cemetery.
