20 Mar 1953 Catherine MacDonald (MacInnis)
The recent death of Mrs. James D. MacDonald awakened in the heart of her many friends and relatives a feeling of deep sorrow and loss. During her long and useful life she endeared herself to all who knew her. Mrs. MacDonald was born at Georgeville, Antigonish Co. in 1871, a daughter of the late Angus MacInnis J.P. and Margaret (MacDougald) MacInnis. She came to King’s Head as a bride in 1897 and lived there for about thirty years. The family then moved to New Glasgow. Her late husband, the well known “Jimmie Dan”, predeceased her in 1950. A woman endowed with an indomitable spirit and unfailing sense of humor, she surmounted the many vicissitudes of daily living. Any call of distress from her neighbor was responded to graciously by this charitable woman. Her door was ever open to friend and wayfarer alike and no one left her home without being the recipient of her cheerfulness and hospitality. Always a devout member of her church and community, she contributed generously of her time and talents until forced a few years ago by ill-health to the retirement of her home. She accepted her long illness with fortitude and resignation and died well fortified by her last rites of the church. In her immediate family she is survived by her five children; John and Lucy at home; Angus at King’s Head; Kaye (Mrs. Bernard Gorman, New Glasgow; Margaret (Mrs. Paul Meehon), New York. Surviving also are one sister, Miss Bessie MacInnis, Newton Center, Mass., and eight grandchildren. The funeral was held from St. John the Baptist Church on March 23, and was largely attended. The Mass of Requiem was celebrated by the pastor Rev. Father Chisholm and the services at the graveside by Rev. Father Chisholm. Pass Bearers were; Harry MacGirr, Robert MacQueen, Donald MacNeil, Hugh MacDonnell, Donald Grant and Edward Cormier. The many people who came to pay their respects, the numerous expressions of sympathy, Mass cards and flowers were mute testimony of the esteem with which this woman was held.
