A well-known Antigonish lady, Mrs. Amelia Catherine MacNaughton, died Tuesday at her home following a long illness, at the age of 81.  Daughter of the late Alexander MacPhee and Isabel MacPhee, she was born at Cape George on October 27, 1871.  Mrs. MacNaughton married the late John C. MacNaughton, merchant of Upper South River, in 1894, moving with her husband to the town of Antigonish when he was appointed Registrar of Deeds for Antigonish County in 1901.  She was active in the work of St. James United Church, especially in the Women’s Missionary Society and the Ladies Aid.  Surviving are three sons and five daughters; J. Huntley and Ernest D. of Antigonish; Frederick T. of St. John’s Nfld; Margaret, Annie and Lillian at home;  Mary (Mrs. Fred King) of Lethbridge, Alta; Helen (Mrs. A.J. Ebbutt) of Sackville N.B.  A sister, Miss Etta MacPhee, lives at Cape George, Mrs. MacNaughton was predeceased by a son, Alexander M. and a daughter Nettie.  Funeral will be held today (Thursday) with a private service at the house at 2 p.m. and a public service at St. James Church at 2:30.  The sympathy of the community is extended to her family.
