MacPherson, Mary A. (MacDonald)

25 Feb 1960  Mary A. MacPherson (MacDonald)

On Feb 25, Mary Ann MacPherson of Georgeville, passed to her eternal reward after a short illness, at the age of 84 years.  The news of her death came as a distinct shock to a wide circle of friends, particularly in the community where she was a familiar and beloved figure for over half a century.  Born in Antigonish, a daughter of Alexander (Big Painter) and Sarah MacDonald, she was a member of a remarkably gifted family.  Generous with her musical talents, she served as organist at St. George’s church, Georgeville for 40 years.  She was blessed with a kindly disposition and warm friendliness of manner which endeared her to all.  Her deeply held religious convictions profoundly influenced her life and moulded a character of exemplary Chrisitan aspect.  She died consoled by the last rites of the Catholic Church.  In 1900 she married the late Angus MacPherson of Georgeville, who predeceased her by 23 years.  The union was blessed by a family of eight, four boys and four girls:  Sister Margaret Mary of the Sisters of St. martha (Sarah), deceased; John of Roxbury, Mass.; (Mrs. H.J. Dwyer) Mary, Dorchester, Mass.; Dan, Pontiac, Mich; (Mrs. John McQueeney) Georgina, Watertown, Mass.; Margaret, deceased; Allan, deceased and Angus R., in the old home.  After Requiem High Mass offered by Rev. L.P. Gillis, P.P., her mortal remains were laid to rest in St. George’s cemetery.
