One of Antigonish County’s most prominent businessmen died suddenly December 17. He as George MacMillan, 50, owner of MacMillan’s Garage and General Store at Lower South River. Mr. Macmillan died in hospital in New Glasgow at midnight, after he had taken suddenly ill on the way home from a business trip to Halifax on Monday. Mr. MacMillan was born at Livingstone’s Cove, Antigonish County, the son of the late MR and Mrs John MacMillan. For some time he engaged in farming and the meat business and in 1949 opened the Garage and Store at Lower South River. A leading figure in community affairs, Mr. MacMillan was a member of the Saint James United Church, Antigonish, and the Masonic Order. He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret MacMillan, of Fairmont, Antigonis County; two sons, Donald and Gordon at home; three daughters, Patricia, teacher at Windsor Junction. N.S. ; Pearl and Mary Margaret. The oldest daughter, Lillian predeceased him a few years ago, Also surviving are five brothers: Alexander, Livingstone’s Cove; Colin and Archie, Detroit; William Lochaber; and John, Lower South River; one sister : Jessie, Mrs. Phones Rogers, Arlington, Mass. The funeral service was held Saturday afternoon at Saint James United Church, Antigonish.
