“Collie Captain Angus” Died Carried Mail For 30 Years – A widely known citizen of Antigonish county, Colin Francis MacDonald of Ballantyne’s Cove died in Saint Martha’s Hospital Saturday at the age of 68. He had been in ill health for some time. “Collie Captain Angus” as he was familiarly known was the son of the late Captain Angus MacDonald and Margaret MacNeil. Mr. MacDonald was engaged in farming and fishing, and for over 30 years, he was the popular efficient mail driver between Antigonish and Ballantyne’s Cove. He was interested in many aspects of community life, and was recognized as an outstanding citizen. His passing will be widely mourned. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Ellen MacEachern of Ballantyne’s Cove whom he married 42 years ago; five daughters; Sister Marie Raymond, C.S.M., St. Joseph’s Hospital, Glace Bay; Margaret (Mrs. Donald A. Chisholm) Antigonish; Isobel (Mrs. Frank MacNeil) Ballantyne’s Cove; Florence (Mrs. A.J. MacDonald) Heatherton; and Mary, with the Department of Lands and Forests, Halifax; three sons; Gus, Ballantyne’s Cove, who is the Rural Mail Driver; Bernard, with Eastern Co-op Services, Stephenville, Newfoundland; and Raymond, at home; two sisters, Sister Mary Austin, Bethany, Antigonish; Catherine, Brookline, Mass.,; and one brother, Angus at Heatherton. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren. The funeral was held Wednesday with Requiem Mass at Holy Rosary Church, Ballantyne’s Cove at 10 a.m.
