MacPherson, Angus

20 Oct 1937  Angus MacPherson

The parish of Georgeville, N.S., suffered a grievous loss in the passing of Angus MacPherson at St. Martha’s Hospital, Wednesday, October 20, 1937.  The news of his death, after a very brief illness came as a shock to the whole community.  A man of sterling character, a splendid neighbor, always interested in the affairs of the parish, and ever ready to give direction and assistance, Mr MacPherson will be sorely missed.  Son of Mr and Mrs Alexander MacPherson , he was born at Georgeville in 1870. After spending most of his early life abroad, particularly in the Western States, Mr. MacPherson returned to Georgeville in 1900, and in that year married Mary MacDonald, Antigonish, who remains to mourn his loss.  Of a family of nine born of the union five survive their father; John, Dan, Mrs. Dwyer (Mary), Mrs. McQueeney, (Georgina) in the United States, and Angus R. at home.  Mr MacPherson is also survived by one brother, Dan, at present in Georgeville.  Another brother, the Reverend Alexander MacPherson, late parish priest of Broad Cove, predeceased him, and is buried in the family plot at Georgeville.  The funeral was held at St. George’s church, Georgeville, Saturday, October 23.  Present in the sanctuary during the Mass were Rev. J.R. Macdonald, Rev. Bernard Chisholm, Antigonish; Rev J.A. MacPherson, St. Andrew’s; and Rev. Francis Gillis, a native of Georgeville, but now in the diocese of Edmonton.  The mortal remains of Mr. MacPherson were laid to rest beside those of his son and daughter in St. George’s cemetery.  Rev. V. Campbell celebrated the Mass and officiated at the grave.
