Mary Ann MacDonald, 83, wife of Hugh Roderick MacDonald of College Street, died in St. Martha’s Hospital on June 21. The funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Ninian’s Cathedral last Friday and burial was in the parish cemetery. The pallbearers were Joseph Hanrahan, John Dunphy, Hugh Haley, Joseph Mattie, Ernest MacDaughton and Joseph Webb. Mrs. MacDonald was a granddaughter of Captain Hughie MacDonald of South Side Harbour, a well known sea captain; and a daughter of Ronald and Margaret (MacEachern) MacDonald of Cape George. Her father was the keeper of the lighthouse. A cousin, Mother St. Stanlius, founded the congregation of the Sisters of St. Martha of Charlottetown. She was a member of St. Ninian Council of the Catholic Women’s League and was highly regarded by her friends and neighbours. Besides her husband she is survived by sister Sally (Mrs. John McMullin), West Newton, Mass., and a stepbrother, John Boyd, Hawthorne Street.
