Ernest Ballantyne, fisherman and farmer of Ballantyne’s Cove, whose circle of friends was wide, died Tuesday, August 24, at his home following a long illness.  Son of the late Stuart Ballantyne and Margaret (Smith) Ballantyne, he was born at Ballantyne’s Cove.  He is survived by his widow, the former Elizabeth MacPhie, daughter of Mr and Mrs William Mac Phie, six daughters; Violet, Kapuskasing, Ont.; Eleanor, Student nurse at St. Martha’s Hospital, Antigonish; Helen, Mabel, Jean and Annie, at home; four sons; Gunner William Ballantyne, R.C.A., overseas; Gerald, Harold, Forbes, at home; three brothers, Smith Ballantyne, Forbes, Kapuskasing; George, Minneapolis; and a sister Elizabeth, Ontario.  The funeral was held Thursday from St. David’s United Church.
