May 1887 Jane Ballantyne
On Sunday the body of Jane Ballantyne, an unmarried woman of unsound mind, aged about 45 years, was found washed ashore not far from her mother’s residence at cape George, N.S. On that day she appeared to be in fair health, and the rest of the family, except her aged mother, went to church, but on returning she was missing, and search being made the body was found as above mentioned, she having apparently drowned herself in the sea, which is there quite deep to the shore.
