Eastern Pictou County was saddened and shocked on Thursday last week to hear of the sudden death of Margaret MacQueen, wife of the well known farmer Wyndham Ballantyne of PIne Tree. When Mr. Ballantyne left the house that morning to go to Stellarton on business, his wife was evidently in the best of health, but later, she complained to one of her sons of a severe pain and lying down on a couch, she passed away as gently as she had lived. Just in the prime of life, only 43 years old, this dearly loved wife and mother, so indispensable to her family’s happiness was in a moment called from them. She was honored and esteemed by all who knew her; devoted to her home and the welfare of her husband and her children, her passing will leave a vacancy, both in her home and in the countryside, that can never be filled. She was a sincere member of her Church and always eager to assist in any good work and she was well capable of taking a leading part in the community as she possessed a clever, alert mind and fine judgement. She leaves to mourn her passing besides her husband, four daughters, Annie, Marjorie, Alice and Agnes, the last named just nine years old and two sons, David and John. Also surviving are her mother, Mrs. Daniel MacQueen, Little Harbor, two sisters, Marjorie, Mrs. Wyndham Weir, Pine Tree; and Rachel, Mrs. Carl Fraser, and one brother, Donald MacQueen, both of Little Harbor. Strange to say, her father died two years ago as suddenly as the daughter passed last week. To all the members of her family goes the deepest sympathy of their many friends in their grievous bereavement. The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon and the large number in attendance and the many tributes of sympathy testified to the great regard in which the deceased was held. Her pastor, Rev. Prescott Murray conducted the service and the pallbearers, cousins of the deceased, were Messrs. Robie Grant, Wyndham Weir, Roy and Ross Ballantyne, Car Fraser and Thomas MacQueen, Interment at Woodburn Cemetery.
