There died at Ballantyne’s Cove, where she had lived since coming to Antigonish county as a bride 65 years ago, Margaret Smith, formerly of Skye Glen, Inverness Co., and relict of the late Stuart Ballantyne who died in 1912. Her funeral took place January 7, the services being conducted by Rev. A.J. MacQueen, pastor of St. James United Church. The pall bearers were Allie Adams, Angus Macdougall, Alex MacMillan, Stephen Macdonald, John H. MacEachern and James MacEachern. Mrs. Ballantyne was 93 years of age, but despite her advanced years she took an active interest in all that went on, and was beloved by all who knew her. Four sons and a daughter survive: George in Minnesota; Smith, manager of the experimental station at Kapuskasing, Ont.; Forbes and Elizabeth, Mrs. E.J. Morrell, also of Kapuskasing, Ont.; and Ernest on the old homestead. Three of her children died young. She is mourned also by 27 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
