Boyd, Margaret (MacKinnon)

9 Jan 1944  Margaret Boyd (MacKinnon)

On January 9, 1944, the community of West Lakevale was saddened by the death of one of its oldest and most highly respected citizens in the person of Mrs. Donald R. Boyd (nee Margaret MacKinnon) who passed away in her 87th year.  Before her marriage she was housekeeper for the late Fr. Dougald Cameron at Georgeville.  In 1896 she married the late Ronald R. Boyd and spent the remainder of her long and useful life at West Lakevale.  She bore her long and trying illness with complete resignation to the Divine Will and was frequently consoled by the sacraments of the church of which she was a devout member.   Her courage and fortitude in the trials of her life were an example to all and her cheerful and charitable disposition made her beloved by all who were fortunate enough to make her acquaintance.  She will be long remembered by those who shared the hospitality of her home.  Deceased is survived by  her daughter Catherine A., who cared for her tenderly during her last  illness, and Mrs. Clarence Jordan, whom she reared, also three sisters and two brothers:  Flora (Mrs. George Butler), Montreal; Mary Ann (Mrs. John T. Campbell), Judique; Miss Janet MacKinnon, Sherbrooke, Que; Allan in Seattle; and Ronald in British Columbia.  She was predeceased by her husband, four brothers and two sisters.  Her remains were laid to rest in St. Columba cemetery.  Rev. A.I. MacAdam, P.P., celebrated requiem mass and officiated at the grave.  The passbeares were nephews of the deceased:  Ronald A. Shaw, Alex J., and Fred Boyd, Morristown, John D. Boyd, West Lakevale, and Laughie MacKinnon, Taylor’s Road.
