John Duncan Brown, 73, of Livingstone’s Cove, died in St. Martha’s Hospital on July 19.  The funeral Mass was celebrated in St. George’s Church, Georgeville, and burial was in the parish cemetery.  The pallbearers were Michael Novak, John Gillis, Morrison MacEachern, John R. Gillis, Cecil MacKay and John Hugh MacEachern.  Mr. Brown was a retired fisherman and a founding member and former director of St. George’s Co-operative Ltd., Ballantynes Cove.  He also  served as warden for the parish.  Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Catherine Gillis of Morar; two daughters, Barbara (Mrs. Darly J. Burke), Lower Sackville; Mary, Halifax; six sons, Carl, Andy, Gerard, and Wayne, all of Livingstones Cove; John, Toronto, and Alex, New Glasgow; and eight grandchildren.  Also surviving are two sisters, Catherine Gillis and Margaret, of Framingham, Mass.; and three brothers, Gillis and Augustus, Antigonish; and James, Lismore.  He was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara Forbes of St. Andrews, and brothers Joseph and Angus.
