Mrs. Ellen Morrison Cunningham, widow of Mortimer L.H. Cunningham, former well known business man of this town, died at her home in Antigonish, Monday, Jan 4 after a protracted illness. She was born at Ballentyne’s Cove, this county, 86 years ago, her parents being the late David Ballentyne and Isabell (Hunter) Ballantyne. On September 2, 1879, she married Mortimer L. Cunningham and since that date has passed all her life in Antigonish. A lady of sterling Christian qualities she was ever the foremost to render assistance in case of need, and her kind and living ministrations were always tendered to the sick or distressed. A devoted member of St. James United Church, she was a life member of the Missionary Society and foremost in the work of the organization. Her husband predeceased her by eleven years, dying on Nov. 28, 1931. Surviving are one son, Pearley M. Cunningham, Antigonish, representative of R.B. Seeton and Co., Ltd., Halifax, and one daughter, Mrs. Livingstone Blake, Damariscotta; and five grandchildren. The family of the late Mrs. Cunningham was held at 2:30 o’clock Thursday afternoon from the home of her son P.M. Cunningham to St. James United Church. Rev. E.B.N.
