June 10th, 2026 – Margaret Irma Delaney
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Margaret Irma Delaney, age 83 at her home in Lakevale, Antigonish County on June 10th, 2026. Irma was born in New Glasgow and was the daughter of the late Allan and Mary Butler, Ardness and the wife of the late Pete Delaney. As an active member of her community, she would freely share her culinary skills by bringing breads and pies to friends and community events. She was especially known for her crafting skills which produced beautiful quilts and needle point works of art that adorned her home. As a gifted seamstress, she even made her own wedding dress. She was a devoted member of St. Columba Parish in Lakevale and over the years would be a weekly reader at mass.
Irma grew up in a large family and was known for her generosity in helping her younger siblings establish their paths in life. She will be remembered for her love of animals and her beautiful gardens.
Irma is survived by her brothers: Leo (Tillie) Butler, Southampton, ON; Donnie Butler, Ardness; Carl (Roxane) Butler, Hammonds Plains; Paul Butler, Abu Dhabi, UAE; her sister: Marilyn Woods (Don Jeffery), Greenhill; her brothers-in-law: Bill (Patricia), Halifax; Gerard, Merigomish; Martin (Mary Jo), Dartmouth; and Harold (Brenda), Springhill; her aunts: Beverely (Alan) Roberts, Antigonish; Catherine MacDonald, New Glasgow; her uncles: John Duncan (Marg) MacDonald, Mississauga, ON; Clary (Joan) MacDonald, Bobcaygeon, ON; Bernie MacDonald, Lismore; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Irma was predeceased by sister Elaine Delaney, brother Lionel Butler, parents-in-law Jim and Mary Delaney, aunt Ann MacDonald and uncles Francis MacDonald and Danny Tufts. The family will receive visitors at C.L. Curry Funeral Home, Antigonish on Friday, June 12th from 3 pm – 6 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Columba Roman Catholic Church, Lakevale on Saturday, June 13th at 2 pm. Irma’s family would like to express sincere appreciation to the VON nurses, Jamie with Palliative Care, and to neighbour, Carroll Boyd, who was always there to lend a helping hand. Also, a heartfelt thank you to Irma’s caregivers known as “the Newfoundland ladies,” Susanna, Marina, and Vanessa who showed love and compassion in caring for Irma over the last few years.
