Doyle, Gertrude, 93 Antigonish Manor, formerly of Crystal Cliffs, Antigonish Harbour passed away peacefully Thursday, December 7th, 2006 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish surrounded by her loving family. Born April 15th, 1913 in Livingston’s Cove she was the daughter of the late John James and Annie (Gillis) MacPherson. She attended the Nova Scotia Normal College and taught school in Antigonish and Guysborough counties before becoming a homemaker. In later years she worked at the Good man’s Co. Store in Antigonish. A woman of tremendous faith she was a member of St. Columba Parish, a long time member and past president of the Catholic Women’s League and later a member of the St. Ninian’s Parish. She was a generous, supportive and living mother, grandmother and great grandmother and friend. Her family was the center of her life. Her kind and caring manner will never be forgotten. She greatly valued the many friends from the JJ Carroll House and the Antigonish Manor. She will be sadly missed by her son John (Grace), Antigonish, and by her five daughters Anne Marie (Gordon) MacKenzie, Eileen MacNeil, Helen Lee (Jesse) Stevens all of Dartmouth; Katherine (Hal) Langille, Mississauga; Bernadette (Allister) MacDougall, Antigonish. She was dearly loved “Nannie” to her grandchildren Stephen, Sandra, Daniel, John Peter, Janie, Laura, Matthew, Alison, Erin, Lindsay, Peter, Jennifer, Marc André, and two step grandchildren Melanie and Melissa. She was very special “Gran Nannie” to her sixteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Alexander (Sandy) MacPherson, Winnipeg and her sisters-in-law Chrissie MacPherson, Antigonish, Allie and Beulah Doyle, Dartmouth, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Peter, granddaughter Anne Monica MacNeil , great grandson Alexander MacDonald, sister Molly McKeough, brothers Gillis and Hugh MacPherson. Visitation will be in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 10:30 am in St. Columba Church, Lakevale with Father Anthony and Father Ray Huntley presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery.
