Rail Pioneer to be Buried Wednesday – Angus Gillis, 87, of 3242 East Eighth, who drove the first CPR locomotive into Penticton in 1812, will be buried here Wednesday. Born in Nova Scotia, Mr. Gillis came to B.C. in 1895 when he joined the CPR. He served mostly on the Kettle Valley run until retiring 20 years ago. He was engineer at the Patricia Hotel from that time until 1955 and was a member of the Elks Lodge here. Surviving are a son Angus; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Wilson and Mrs. W.A. Scribailo, and seven grandchildren, all of Vancouver. Requiem mass will be said in St. Augustine’s Church, 2015 West Eighth, Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Rev. John McNeil officiating. Burial will be in Ocean View Cemetery.
