Funeral services were held last Friday in St. George’s Church, Georgeville, for the late Florence Catherine Gillis, 86, of Livingstone’s Cove, Antigonish County, with Rev. Angus MacGillivray officiating. Mrs. Gillis died June 21 in St. Martha’s Hospital. Active pallbearers were her grandchildren Sandy, Donnie and John Reggie Chisholm, John Paul Halloran, Billie MacDonald and Gerard Macdougall. Honorary pallbearers were Hughie MacInnis, JOhn van den Huevel, Chester McGrath, Angus Mills, John Rankin and Dawson Begin. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Born in Livingstone’s Cove, she was a daughter of the late John and Florence Ann (Smith) MacKinnon. She was a member of St. George’s Parish CWL. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Mary Chisholm, Ohio, Antigonish County; Margaret (Mrs. Lawrence) Halloran, St. Andrew’s; Mrs. Helen Macdougall, Livingingstone’s Cove; a foster daughter, Mrs. Christine Begin, Ottawa; 24 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Neil R.; daughter, Florence; a son, Joseph R.; and three infant sons.
