Gillis, Francis Louis 65 of Hanover, formerly of Abington and Millis died Thursday, October 14, 2010 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth after a long illness. The son of the late Angus and Catherine (Brown) Gillis, he was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada on June 8, 1945. Mr Gillis retired in 2001 as an Executive Claims Consultant at John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company, where he worked for 35 years. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, enjoyed the quiet beauty of Livingstone’s Cove in Nova Scotia and was affectionately known as “Pop” by his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Louise (Wheelock) Gillis, 2 daughters, Dawn G. Kurtz, her husband David and their children Ethan, Brady and Nora of Shrewsbury and Jacqueline G. Faherty, her husband Patrick and their children Kyle, Nolan, Griffin and Ella of Hanover. He is also survived by many beloved cousins in Nova Scotia. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St., Rte 53 in Hanover on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9 am in St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Church, 392 Hanover St., Rte 139 in Hanover. Interment in Hanover Center Cemetery.
