Funeral service for the late Major A. Thomas ‘Tom’ Hanway, Retired, 77, Halifax, was held
November 8 in St. James United Church, with Reverend Peter Smith officiating. Burial was in St.
David’s Cemetery, Cape George. Mr. Hanway died October 30, 2019, at home. Eulogist was Lisa Adams. Music was provided by St. James Church Choir. Members of Royal Canadian Legion Arras Branch 59 Antigonish, formed an honour guard. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late squadron leader J.A. ‘Abe’ Hanway, and Helen (Boylan) Hanway. He spent his working career as a signals officer in the Canadian Armed Forces. He and his family spent much of their life in Nova Scotia. After retirement, he and his wife Lois moved to Cape George, Antigonish County, where he was involved with the Harbour Authority in Ballantyne’s Cove, as well as Arras Branch #59, Royal Canadian Legion in Antigonish. He is survived by two sons, Jamie, Dartmouth; Adam, at home; daughter, Beth (Ben) Jensen, Meaford, Ontario; two grandsons, Joel Hanway, Jakob Jensen; brother, David Beazley, Stittsville, Ont.; many in-laws. He was predeceased by his wife, Lois (Adams) Hanway. Memorial donations may be made Pancreatic Cancer Canada in memory of his wife, or a charity of your choice.
