31 Jan 2023
It is with great sadness the family of Linda Diana Hawes (Haigh), age 63, announce her passing on January 31, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Linda is survived by her husband, Lester; children: Kevin (Susan), Hammonds Plains; Tina Lynn (Robert) Walker, Timberlea; grandchildren: Riley, Emma, Brady and Owen; parents: George and Margaret Haigh; siblings: Gail (Robert) Thomson; Denise Haigh; Donna (Chris) O’Hearn; brothers: Derrick Haigh; Ronnie (Julie) Brooks and many nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.
She was predeceased by her birth mother, Lillian (Sheaves) Haigh; brother, Richard Haigh; grandparents Charles and Ada (Turner) Sheaves and Norman and Doris (Puncheon) Haigh.
For many years, Linda worked at CUA and Credit Union Central of Nova Scotia where she made many lifelong friends. Her greatest gifts in the world were her children and grandchildren. Upon retirement, Lester and Linda moved to Cape George where their door was always open to greet friends and family. Linda truly believed “the Cape” was her little piece of heaven. Summer boating days along St. George’s Bay brought her great pleasure.
From the outset of Linda’s cancer diagnosis in September 2021, she gracefully fought every step of the way with the help of the Palliative Care and Chemotherapy Treatment Teams at St Martha’s Regional Hospital. Linda appreciated the special care provided by Drs. MacCormack, Rice, Che and Ross as well as Shelley Robertson. She also appreciated all the nurses and staff of St Martha’s, along with the VON nurses who traveled to the Cape in all types of weather to assist her in her health care needs.
Special thanks to Veronica and James MacEachern, Valerie Chugg, Rose Wessel, Krista Taylor, Margie Douglass, Shelly Daley, sister-in-law, Cecilia (Hawes) Landry and to the many others who stepped up during Linda’s illness.
Visitation will be in C.L Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish on Sunday, February 5, 2023 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St Columba Church, Lakevale on Monday February 6 at 2:00 pm with Reverend Andrew Boyd presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date.
