2023 Francis “Frank” Blaise Heffernan (1940-2023)
Heffernan, Francis “Frank”, 82, peacefully passed away at the Palliative Care Unit of St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones. A resident of South River Road, Frank was the son of the late Margaret (Girlie) and John Dan Heffernan.
Born in Georgeville, he learned the value of hard work at an early age, working with his father on their small family farm and later with fishing. Frank was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, especially during Minnie and Shawn’s illnesses.
A woodsman by trade, but a storyteller at heart, Frank loved nothing more than going for a double double and a drive with his good friend AJ. He also loved visiting with his grandchildren and celebrating their various accomplishments. Frank loved to eat fish (only fresh) and tell stories that were ALMOST the truth. Frank prided himself in being “a good Tory” and having those around him always laughing at his witty remarks. He enjoyed getting to know those who crossed his path, ensuring no one left a stranger.
He is predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Minnie, and his son, Shawn. He is survived by son David (Eileen) Heffernan, and daughter Lisa (John A) MacDonald. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Andrea and Breanna Heffernan, Lauren, Andrew and Brent MacDonald. He is also survived by siblings Kay (late Silvio) Artuso, Patsy (late John) Wallace, Marian (Joe) Neary, Bernie (Brenda) Heffernan, and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. He is predeceased by brothers Johnny, Leo, Roddie, Donnie and Carmen.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 20th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College St, Antigonish. A private funeral mass will be held at his request. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to CA-R-MA or the charity of your choice.
