Funeral services for the late Margaret M. “Girlie” Heffernan, 85, of Georgeville, Antigonish County, took place March 31, in St. George’s Church, Georgeville, with Rev. Gilles LeBlanc officiating.  Burial will take place in the parish cemetery at a later date.  Mrs. Heffernan died March 28, in St. Martha’s Hospital.  Readers at the Mass were Lisa MacDonald and Sandra MacLean.  Active pallbearers were Tony and Jeff Wallace, David, Shawn and Shannon Heffernan, and Carrie Neary.  Honorary pallbearers were Silvio Artuso, Gerard MacDougall, John Wallace, Bobby Gillis, Roddie MacDonald and Joe Neary.  Born in Georgeville, she was a daughter of the late Elizabeth Gillis, Georgeville.  She was a well-known member of the community.  She worked as a custodian at Antigonish Regional HIgh School for a number of years.  She is survived by her husband, John Dan; three daughters, Kaye (Mrs. Silvio) Artuso, Guelph, Ont; Patsy (Mrs. John) Wallace, Malignant Cove; and Marion (Mrs. Joe) Neary, Cloverville; six sons, John D. (wife Ruth), Guelph, Ont.; Frank (wife Minnie) and Roddie (wife Elaine), both of Antigonish; Leo (wife Geraldine), Peterborough, Ont.; Bernie (wife Brenda), Malignant Cove; and Donald, Georgeville; 26 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.  S he was predeceased by a son, Carmen; a daughter in infancy; and a grandson Paul.
