5 Sep 2024 Daniel Thomas Huntley
Huntley, Daniel Thomas, 77, of the RK MacDonald Nursing home, Antigonish, passed away peacefully at the Wellness Centre in Antigonish on September 5, 2024, with family by his side. Born in Antigonish, he was the son of the late Mary Catherine (Gillis) Huntley and Thomas Peter Huntley. Dan spent his early years in The Glebe on the family farm. He left home at the early age of 17 to pursue a career as an electrician, and later became a proud member of IBEW local 625. Dan worked across the country, from PEI to BC, and wired many a house locally. He spent the majority of his life in the community of Maryvale, Antigonish County. Dan was a devoted Christian, committed to serving and helping others. He worked at the Antigonish Jail and the Monastery as a part time counselor and was a member of AA organizations for many years. He was even known to play a bit of fiddle with the Wallaces in his earlier years. Dan had some challenges in life, the biggest being his stroke in 2006. Despite this obstacle, he pushed on, encouraging and touching the lives of many around him. Dan is survived by his brother, Archie (Jodi), The Glebe; nephews, Daniel (Victoria), Fort McMurray; James, Maryvale; John, Charlottetown; nieces, Lauren, Antigonish; and Johanna, The Glebe; adopted sons, Robert (Jen) Asselstine, Malignant Cove; and Bruce (Maureen) Asselstine, Truro; and family doggies, Seonaidh (Shony) and Maisie, whom he loved to tease. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Vincent in 2011. Dan has donated his body to Dalhousie Medical Sciences, with the hope he might help others in future. A family gathering will take place at a later date. A private burial will take place when Dan’s remains are returned to the family. We thank the staff and residents of the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home for their continued support and kindness, the many nurses and student nurses and doctors that have cared for Dan, the MAID program administrators, and the Dalhousie Medical Sciences Department.
In remembrance of Dan, please share a kind act, words of encouragement and a helping hand whenever you are able.
