Keizer, Jean Marie, age 73, of Cape George, Antigonish County, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2021, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital. Born in Antigonish, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Hazel (Carpenter) Deyoung. Jean enjoyed spending her time in her community, beit working at Boyd’s or the Tuna Interpretive Centre, or volunteering her time with the Ladies Auxiliary of the North Shore Fire Department or the Holy Rosary Altar Society, She enjoyed knitting, sewing, ceramics, and playing cards – but she was best known for her home cooking. She was famous for her pickles, squares and meat pies, and she always had a freezer full of goodies. Jean loved a good dance, 60’s music, and Darryl McLean in the afternoon. She is survived by her children, Peter (Ian Stevenson), Port Hawkesbury; Greg (Allana), St. Joseph’s; Colette (William) Brady, Cape George Point; Janine Keizer, Cape George; Louise Keizer, Barrie, Ontario; grandchildren Beth, Anne, Robyn Lynn, and Iain Keizer; and siblings, Patrick (Mary Theresa), Bernice (Robert) Doiron, Joe (Maureen), Pierre (Jessie), William (Margie), and Carmel (Boyd) MacPherson, all of Pomquet; Therese (Ernie) Falkenham, Greenfield; and Lucille Deyoung, Kanata, Ontario. Predeceased by her husband, John Lewis “Lewie”. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday in Holy Rosary Church, Ballantynes Cove, at 10:00 am, Father Andrew Boyd presiding. Proof of vaccination is required for both visitation and funeral, and masks are mandatory. Burial in the parish cemetery.
