This is the first lighthouse built at Cape George Point. It shows the lighthouse mounted on top of the family residence. The house is braced with wood as the winds were so strong that the house would shake and impede the rotation of the light. This house was built in 1861, but this photo must be from later than 1866 as that is when the supports were added. It is unknown who the people in the picture are. They could be William Condon’s family, Hugh MacDonald’s family or even Alex MacEachern’s family as they all lived in the house during this time.
