Funeral services for the late Allan Joseph MacDonald, 82, Heatherton, Antigonish County, were held March 17 in Immaculate Conception Church, Heatherton, with Monsignor Donald MacDonald officiating, aided by Father Hector MacDonald and Father Bernard MacInnis. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Mr. MacDonald died March 14, 2002 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Readers at the funeral Mass were Frances MacDonald, Lindsay Manuel and Melissa MacDonald, Allan, ???Michaud and Rachel MacDonald and Sara Ryter presented the ???. Active pallbearers were members of Nova Scotia Power Commission. Born in Heatherton, her was the son of the late Alex A. and Jennifer? (Chisholm) MacDonald. He was widely known as “the meter man” having read meters for Nova Scotia Power for 43 years until his retirement. He took a sharp interest in politics, hockey and softball, as well as being an active participant in card games. He was the ??? of the former wardens of Immaculate Conception Parish, a member of the former Holy Name Society, Third Order of St. Augustine and St. Ninian’s Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Florence (MacDonald), four sons, Gerard (Frances), Truro, Regis, at home; Andre (Melissa), Heatherton; Dennis (fiancee Lindsay), Camp ???, New Brunswick; four daughters, Audrey…..cut off
