Funeral services for the late Augustine (Gus) MacDonald, 66, of Ballantyne’s Cove, Antigonish County, were held June 30 in Holy Rosary Church, Ballantyne’s Cove, with Rev. Angus MacGillivray officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Mr. MacDonald died June 26 in St. Martha’s Hospital. Active pallbearers were Albert MacEachern, Louie MacEachern, Larry Roberts, Joe Murphy and John H. MacEachern. Honorary pallbearers were Dan J. MacInnis, Mark MacInnis, Leo MacInnis, Buddy MacEachern, Michael Noval, Alex Adams, Harold Ballantyne, Jeames Delaney, John V. MacEachern, John Gavin, Hugh MacGillivray and Kimball Falkenham. The Sisters of St. Martha provided the music for the service, with Sister Margaret Mary the organist. Alvin MacNeil, of Halifax, nephew of the deceased, gave the readings. Born in Ballantyne’s Cove, he was a son of the late Colin F. and Mary Ellen (MacEachern) MacDonald. He was a rural mail carrier and in later years custodian at St. Andrew’s Junior HIgh School, until ill health forced his retirement. He was a well known salmon fisherman for most of his life. He is survived by his wife, the former Isabel Murphy; four sons, Colin, Antigonish Harbour; Patrick, Blaise and Irving, all at home; five sisters, Margaret (Mrs. Donald A.) Chisholm, Antigonish; Isabel (Mrs. Frank) MacNeil, Lakevale; Mary, Halifax; Sister Marie Rayond, csm, Kamloops, B.C.; and Florence (Mrs. Allan J.) MacDonald, Heatherton; two brothers, Bernard, Antigonish; and Ray, Ballantyne’s Cove; and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Austin; and a sister, Martha.
