7 Jun 1945 Cassie MacDonald (MacDonald)
A well known and respected member of St. Columba’s parish, Lakevale, Mrs. Dan r. Macdonald, was called to her eternal reward, June 7, 1945. The deceased, a daughter of John and May (Chisholm) MacDonald, was born at Georgeville 71 years ago. At an early age the family moved to Lakevale, and she resided there the rest of her life. All through her life she lived in the old practices of her Highland forebear. Food and rest was always ready for the wayfarer, be it a friend or stranger. She was kind and friendly to all, and her home was a gathering place where young and old came frequently to pass a cheerful evening. In her passing the community loses an esteemed citizen, her parish a valued member. After a lengthy illness and fortified by the last rites of her church she passed to her eternal reward, leaving to mourn their loss: her husband, a nephew and niece, Ronald and Lucy Kennedy, and John Moriarity, all three having lived with her since childhood; two sisters: Mary and Mrs. Livingstone; Sadie, Mrs. James Boyd. Her sister, Christy, Mrs. H. Bigley, and two brothers John A., and John M., predeceased her. Funeral services were held from St. Columba’s church Saturday morning, June 9, with requiem high Mass by Rev. Dr. Malcolm MacLellan who, assisted by Rev. A.I. MacAdam also officiated at the grave.
