A widely known Antigonish woman, Mrs. Colin MacDonald, died at her home at Ballantynes Cove, Thursday evening after a lengthy illness. The former Mary Ellen MacEachern of Ballantynes Cove, she was an active leader in the church and community life until ill health forced her retirement. A graduate of Mount St. Bernard, she was a school teacher before her marriage to the late Colin F. MacDonald, who predeceased her by four years. The CWL, Home and School Association, Red Cross and all phases of the cooperative movement knew Mrs. MacDonald as an outstanding leader. Surviving are five daughters and three sons. They are: Margaret (Mrs. Donald Chisholm), Antigonish; Isabel (Mrs. Frank MacNeil) Cape George Point; Florence (Mrs. Allan J. MacDonald) Heatherton; Martha (Sister Marie Raymond) CSM St. Joseph’s Hospital, Glace Bay; Mary, in Halifax; Gus and Raymond at home; Bernard in Antigonish. On Saturday her remains will be taken to her late residence at Ballantynes Cove from where her funeral will take place on Monday at Holy Rosary Church at Ballantynes Cove.
