MacDonald, Raymond A., 84, of the R. K. MacDonald Nursing Home and formerly of Ballantyne’s Cove, Antigonish Co., passed away peacefully on February 4, 2014 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born September 21, 1929, he was a son of the late Colin Francis (Capt. Angus)and Mary Ellen (MacEachern) MacDonald.  In his early years, he operated the family farm. Following in his father’s footsteps, he became the mail carrier, affectionately known as “Ray the Mailman” for route 337 (RR#4), a career that spanned 42 years until his retirement in 2004. Ray loved to dance and was seen and known at all the dances throughout the county. He was a faithful member of Holy Rosary Parish in Ballantyne’s Cove. Ray was always willing to lend a helping hand to neighbors and the summer residents at “The Cape”.  He is survived by sisters, Sr. Marie Raymond, CSM, Bethany, Antigonish and Florence MacDonald (late Allan Joseph), Heatherton, sister-in-law, Isabel MacDonald, Ballantyne’s Cove as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.  He was predeceased by brothers, Augustine “Gussie” and Bernard; sisters, Margaret I. Chisholm, Isabel MacNeil and Mary MacDonald, sister, Martha and brother, Austen in infancy.  Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Friday in the C. L. Curry Funeral Home. 135 College Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 am in Holy Rosary Church Ballantynes Cove with Reverend Evo DePierro presiding. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
