MacDougall, James

28 Feb 1920

At St. Martha’s Hospital Feb. 28, James MacDougall, merchant, of Livingstone’s Cove at the age of seventy four years.  Deceased was born at North Side Cape George, Antigonish County.  He started life as a clerk for Colin Grant then doing business at Ballentynes Cove.  Afterward he carried on business on his own account at the same place and at Livingstone Cove, until a year ago when ill health compelled him to retire.  Mr. MacDougall was noted for his strict economy and frugality of living: yet he was known to be a great friend of the poor, and seldom if ever were they turned away without relief.  Consistent with his Christian ideals, he carefully divided his savings between charitable institutions and his near relatives.  A brother of Donald of Lynn, Mass. survives him.  During his last moments he was consumed by the frequent reception of the last sacraments and died peacefully resigned to meet his Creator and Judge.
