Derek Gerard MacEachern – Funeral services for the late Derek Gerad MacEachern, 22, of Ballantyne’s Cove, Antigonish County, were held on July 24th at Holy Rosary Church, Ballantyne’s Cove. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Derek died on July 12 at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax as a result of a motorbike accident. Active pallbearers were Colin MacDonald, Glen MacEachern, Jimmy MacInnis, John B. Marquis, Sandy MacEachern and Alan MacKay. Honorary pallbearers were Brenton Adams, Bobby Gillis, Tommy Partridge, Blaise MacDonald, Gordon Gillis, Joseph MacEachern, Johnny Novak, Bobby Linkletter, Gary DeCoste, and Pat MacDonald. Born in Halifax, he was the son of Gerard and Velma (DeCoste) MacEachern. He was employed as a full time fisherman in the Antigonish area. Besides his parents he is survived by three sisters, Donna, cara and Paula, all at home.
