MACEACHERN – Angus “Albert” – 87, a resident of Green Meadows Community Residence for Seniors (2001), North Grant, Antigonish Co., and 14 View St., Sydney Mines, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2007, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born in Ballantyne’s Cove, Antigonish Co., he was a son of the late Alexander (Sandy) Malcolm and Mary Kate (MacDougall) MacEachern. He was retired from the Co-Operators Insurance Co., Sydney. Albert traveled every road and trail of the Cabot Trail during his years with the Co-operators and especially enjoyed taking his family on vacation to these special locations. Albert enjoyed playing bridge, long walks with his wife Kay, fishing, swimming, camping, picnics, photography, family lobster feeds, the Antigonish Highland Games, and especially his family and friends. He took great pleasure in planning and maintaining his vegetable and flower garden. Albert was a veteran of the Second World War, Sergeant, Royal Canadian Artillery (Gunner, Second Battalion, Fifth LAA 86 Battery), serving in Canada, the United Kingdom, Continental Europe and Central Mediterranean area. In his earlier years he was heavily involved in the boxing circles in Cape Breton. Albert was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Sydney Mines, and Saint Ninian’s Cathedral, Antigonish. He was an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus, Santa maria Council No. 22024, Sydney Mines. Surviving are his wife, Kay (Burns) MacEachern (1947), a resident of Northside Community Guest Home, North Sydney (1996); daughters Patricia Eastabrooks (Mitch), Amherst; Clare Handforth (Tim), Fort McMurray, Alta., and Malignant Cove; son, Burns (Donna), Stellarton; granddaughter, Mary-Kate Handforth, Fort McMurray, Alta.; grandsons, Kyle MacEachern, Stellarton; Shelleby MacEachern, Stellarton; step granddaughters, Alana Robson (Andrew), Amherst; Trivial Aylward (Ian), Saint John’s, N.L.; brother, Malcolm (Joan), Antigonish and Cape George; sisters Angeline (George) Grant, Mary (the late Ranold) Gillis, Antigonish; Margie (the late John) Adams, Scarborough, Ont; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son John in infancy; brothers, Hugh Bernard and Gillis. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in CL Curry Funeral Home, 135 College St., Antigonish. Funeral mass will be held in Holy Rosary Church, Ballantynes Cove, Antigonish Col., on Thursday at 2 p.m. A reception for family and friends will follow at the North Shore Fire Hall, Ballantynes Cove. Burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney (on Friday).
