Services For County Native – James Fraser MacEachern, 90 of Ballantyne’s Cove, died November 13 in St. Martha’s Hospital. Member of a seafaring family, Mr. MacEachern was a son of the late Captain Ranald Archie and Florence (MacDonald) MacEachern. Around the turn of the century he worked for three years on the Trans-continental railway at Hearst, Ontario. At that time, he also drove the mail from Hearst to Kapuskasing by dog team. Returning to Ballantyne’s Cove, he resumed fishing/farming operations in which he continued until retirement. His wife, the former Mary Catherine (Captain Angus MacDonald), died in 1953. He is survived by four sons, Hugh, Afton; Cyril, Kentville; Morrison, Antigonish; Austin at home; one daughter, Mary, Sarasota, Florida; 22 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A daughter, Florence, and a son Angus are dead. The funeral Mass was celebrated Sunday afternoon at Holy Rosary Church, Ballantynes Cove. Burial was in the parish cemetery. The pallbearers were Ronald MacEachern, Gerald Ballantyne, John H. MacEachern, John V. MacEachern, Gussie MacDonald and Kimball Falkenham.
