The death occurred at St. Martha’s Hospital April 12, of John Murphy McEachern of South Side Cape George.  Mr. McEachern was born in Sheet Harbor, Halifax County in 1881.  He was the son of Captain Hugh McEachern and Bridget Murphy McEachern.  His mother having died in his infancy, his father retired from the seafaring life and brought his two children to his home at Cape George where Mr. McEachern lived all his life and was postmaster there until the Rural Delivery system came into effect.  Mr. McEacern’s way of life was an answer to the biblical question, “And who is my neighbor?”  To friend and wayfarer his personal kindness, material charity, and intelligent counsel to all who sought it made his passing a great personal loss.  The solicitous attention given him by his neighbors and many friends during his long illness bore testimony to his exceptional  qualities of mind and heart, always mindful of the advancement of the community in which he lived, he was a leader  in affairs of church, school and agriculture.  He is survived by six nephews and six nieces, the family of his sister Elizabeth, the late Mrs. William J. Walsh of Cloverville Road, Antigonish.  The funeral was held from the home of his nephew James B. Walsh, Cloverville Road, Antigonish.  Services were at the Church of the Holy Rosary, Ballantyne’s Cove.  Rev. Father Bryden officiating.  Pallbearers were Harry Bailye, Leo Roberts, Colin MacDonald, Cameron McEachern, Hugh McEachern, Dan Hugh MacInnis.
