It is with grateful hearts for a life well lived that the family of John Vincent MacEachern announce his peaceful passing after a brief illness in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish on September 11, 2026 in his 95th year. Born March 31, 1931 in Cape George, he was the son of the late Hugh and Mary Catherine (Boyd) MacEachern. John V. was a lifelong resident of Cape George and found pleasure in his vocation of fishing, farming and lumbering. Into his nineties, he could be found with his saw or axe, cutting, chopping or making kindling. Guided by his deep fatih, Johnnie lived out lessons of kindness, patience and grace. In turn, his community came together after the death of his wife, Mary Jane (Aucoin) in 2016, and embraced him in so many ways. Whether a meal placed in his fridge, a favourite pie, or a visit on the verandah watching the waves, this helped John to be able to spend his last years at home. His caregivers, Collette and Marie, and his homecare girls, brightened his days. Predeceased by his four sisters Stella, Jeanette, Aileen and Nan, he is survived by his MacNeil, Chisholm, MacEachern and Aucoin nieces and nephews and Aucoin sisters and brothers-in-law. There will be no visitation. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Columba Church, Lakevale on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at 10 am, Reverend Andrew Boyd presiding. Burial will take place in St. Michael’s Parish Cemetery, East Margaree. Memorial donations may be made to Cape George Development Association or a charity of choice.
