MacEachern, Ronald (Buddy)

1939-2015

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Buddy MacEachern announce his sudden passing on Wednesday, August 5th, 2015, five days before his 76th birthday. Buddy took his last breath at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital with his loving wife of 53 years by his side.  Buddy was born on August 10, 1939 to the late Eustace and Margaret Bell MacEachern of Ballantyne’s Cove.

He spent many years on the water fishing lobster, herring, gaspereaux and tuna. Buddy continued to keep in close contact with all his fishing friends by traveling to the cove to hear all the news right up until the week before his passing. Buddy also had a love of music, animals and for farming.  He continued to have a garden with his favorite vegetables with many of his friends and neighbors helping to plant, fertilize and harvest. He eagerly shared his bounty, often wanting everyone to taste the best potatoes at the Cape. Everyone who knew Buddy will always remember him as the man who knew all the NEWS. He was easy to talk to, as his many friends knew who often stopped by to hear the local goings on.  His house was a revolving door of friends and family stopping to hear the local goings on. It was not unheard of for the first visitors to arrive before 7:00 am and the last to leave after 9:00 pm. He was very involved in his community being on the finance committee at Holy Rosary Church for 30 years. He loved living in the close knit community of Ballantyne’s Cove, never wanting to venture very far from it. He believed everyone should work together to support their community to help make it a better place to live. He also loved having his family close by, often asking when they would be returning to visit before it was even time to leave. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lillian (Kirwan); children, Darlyne (Paul) Proctor, Ballantyne’s Cove; Cindy (Mike) Miller, Whitby, ON; and Ronald, London, England; grandchildren Jordyn Proctor and Alec and Caleb Miller; siblings, Mary (John) Ray, Cape Cod, Mass.; Cecelia (Richard) Grant, Antigonish; Eva, Kessler, Penn; Anne  MacPherson, Antigonish, Jackie (Heather) Cape George, Gerard (Velma), Ballantyne’s Cove,  Daniel (late Lorine), Ballantye’s Cove; Betty (Kenny) Farrell, North Grant; and numerous nieces and nephews who all loved him. Predeceased by his son, Michael. Visitation will be held Sunday in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish, from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm.  Funeral Mass will be held Monday at 11:00am in Holy Rosary Church, Ballantyne’s Cove, Reverend Evo DiPierro presiding.  Burial in the parish cemetery.
