Prominent Citizen Passes – Duncan MacGregor Died At Home in New Glasgow

This county lost another prominent citizen when, after an illness which became critical only a few days ago, Duncan MacGregor, aged 71, died here tonight.  Mr. MacGregor, who was born at Cape George, Antigonish County, moved to Westville in 1873 where he established himself in business and for a number of years was in partnership with the late John Macdonald.  For more than a half-century Mr. MacGregor was one of the leading residents of that town and seven years ago he moved to New Glasgow.  He was prominent in the Masonic Order and was the possessor of a past master’s jewel.  He also was a prominent Conservative of the county and a member of the United church.  

Funeral Friday

Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, John R., general manager of the Chronicle Co., Ltd., Halifax; John A. comptroller of the intercolonial Coal Company, Westville; three daughters, Miss Bessie at home, Mrs. Jessie Thompson of New Glasgow and Mrs. Minnie MacBain of Meadowville; a sister Mrs A.H. Denoon, Halifax; a brother Hugh in Vancouver.  The funeral will be held Friday at 3 p.m., the services to be conducted by Rev. H.A. Frame, New Glasgow; Rev. W.S. Godfrey, Westville; and Rev. J.L. George, New Glasgow.  Interment will be a Riverside cemetery, New Glasgow.
