Funeral services for the late M. Gillis “Mister” MacInnis, 82, of Arisaig, Antigonish County, took place March 7 in St. Margaret of Scotland church, Arisaig with Rev. Thomas Morley officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the parish cemetery. Mr. MacInnis died March 4, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital. Readers at the Mass were grandchildren Carrie and Kelly MacInnis, with grand-daughter Alan MacPherson presenting the intentions. Soloist was Nadine MacInnis with grand-daughter Stephanie Macpherson as violinist. Active pallbearers were Duncan and Hugh MacInnis, John Ross, Ronnie “Miller’ and Steve “Miller” MacDonald and Peter Gillis. Honorary pallbearers were Arthur Arbuckle, Zeno, Alex, Jackie “Miller” MacDonald, Miked MacPherson and Angus MacQuarrie. Born in Cape George, Antigonish County, he was a son of the late Danny Alex and Martha (MacEachern) MacInnis. He was a self-employed fisherman and mechanic all his working life. He is survived by his wife the former Catherine MacDonald; four sons, Hughie, Stevie and Colin, all of Arisaig; and Bernard, Maryvale, five daughters, Beverly MacPherson, Upper South River; Mary, Arisaig, Simone Scott and Carol Anne Currie, both of Bedford; and Bonnie Gillis, Pleasant Valley; a brother, Angus R., Moncton, N.B.; a sister, Isabel MacInnis, Cape George; and 16 grandchildren. He was predeceased by five brothers, Alexander, Lauchie, Leo, Donald and Hughie; and two sisters, Mary Martha and Sally King.
