23 Apr 1934
The death of the late Mrs. William J. MacLean (Nee Malinda Janet Adams) on April 23, 1934, following a serious illness with complications resulting in paralysis came indeed with sadness to her many friends in the community, and especially so to the members of her family in the home, and to her absent relatives. The best medical skill at home and also treatment received at the Prince Edward Island Hospital alike proved unavailing, and the end came peacefully on the date above mentioned. The deceased was born in Mabou, C.B., on February 20, 1877, and was a daughter of the late Mr. Allan Adams, and Mrs. Margaret Adams of the above named place, and her passing occurred in the 58th year of her age. Although in impaired health for about two years, she was not confined to her room until five days before her death. Prior to this time, almost from force of habit, she helped in the duties of her home, and the day preceding the final stroke, she visited at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John MacLeod, who lives nearby. When about 8 years old her family removed from Mabou to Cape George, N.S., where two of her brothers still reside. Thirty-five years ago she was united in marriage with William J. MacLean, of Peter’s Road, where by thrift and care they succeeded in building up and maintaining a comfortable home. Although of a modest and unassuming disposition, the late Mrs. MacLean was a kind and obliging neighbor, and was highly esteemed and respected by the many friends who had the pleasure of her acquaintance. It is a consultation to the bereaved family to know that their loved one is free from pain and suffering, and has passed on before to that “Beautiful Land” of eternal joy to be with her Saviour and Redeemer. The deceased became a member of the Peter’s Road Presbyterian Church in 1915 during the pastorate of Rev. Archibald Sutherland. During her illness she was frequently visited by her pastor, Rev. J.H. Dougals, and was administered the Sacrament in her home. Besides the bereaved husband, the members of her family are; Nettie (Mrs. John MacLeod) and James A., Peter’s Road; Mabel (Mrs. Gordon MacLeod) Arlington, Mass; and Claude at home. There are also three grandchildren. The following are the brothers and sisters; John and Allan Adams, Cape George, N.S.; Alexander Adams, Melrose, Mass.; Mrs. Davidson, Stellarton, N.S.; Mrs. Alex Cameron, James River, N.S., and Mrs. Otis Dearden, Saugus, Mass. The funeral services were held in the Peter’s Road Presbyterian Church, where a large assemblage was congregated, and were conducted by the Pastor, Rev. J.H. Douglas.
