Funeral services for Mary Flora MacNeil, 73m, of Big Pond, formerly of Beaver Meadow, Antigonish County, were held in St. Mary’s Church, Big Pond, Cape Breton, with burial in the parish cemetery. Mrs. MacNeil died on September 11 in the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax. Her seven sons served as pallbearers. They were Francis, Barry, Alexander, Gordon, Milton, Bernie and Kenneth Gillis. Born in HIghlandview, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Mary Flora (MacMullen) MacPhee. She is survived by four daughters, Florence (Mrs. Anthony MacEachern, Jean (Mrs. Wayne) MacNeil and Mrs. Carmie Richards, all of Antigonish; Rhodena (Mrs. Roland)Crowell, Lake Echo; seven sons, Gordon, North Grant; Frank, Bernie, Barry, Alexander, Kenny and Milton all of Toronto; one stepson, Lawrence Gillis of Calgary; one step daughter Mrs. Marie Moench, Calgary; five brothers; Daniel, Windsor, Ontario; Anthony, Johnny, Bernie and Neil, all of Cape Breton; three sisters, Veronica (Mrs. Joe) Lee, New Waterford; Theresa (Mrs. Rod) Patterson, Toronto; and Margaret (Mrs. Joe) MacIntyre, Sydney; 44 grandchildren; five step grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Martin Gillis, and by her second husband, Peter MacNeil; three sons and two step-daughters.
