Mrs. William S. MacPhie, the former Catherine MacNair, died at her home at Cape George, Feb. 4, following a long illness. She was in her 84th year. Daughter of the late Wm. M. and Elizabeth (Copeland) MacNair, she was born at Cape George, and married Mr. MacPhie over fifty years ago. Mrs. MacPhie will be greatly missed in the community where she was so well known for her neighborliness and kindness at all times. Particularly will St. David’s Church feel a deep sense of loss in her death. Surviving besides her husband, who has been bedridden for over a year, are four daughters and three sons; Mrs. Ernest Ballantyne, (Bessie), Cape George; Mrs. John A. Thompson (Kathleen, R.N.), Halifax; Margaret and Mabel, R.N. at home; Irving in Boston; Leonard and Harold, Cape George; and seventeen grandchildren. A grandson, William S. Ballantyne was seriously wounded in western Europe during World War TWo. The funeral was held Wednesday, Feb. 6, from ST. David’s United Church, the service being conducted by Rev. E.B.S. Miller, St. James United Church, Antigonish. The pallbearers were four grandsons; Forbes l., Wm. S., Gerald and Harold Ballantyne.
