MacPhie, John Matthew, 72, of Antigonish passed away on August 15,2009 the Feast of the solemnity of the Assumption of Mary, at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Harold and Louise (MacInnis) MacPhie.  John M. was a house painter and fisherman most of his working life. 

He is survived by daughters: Janet (Kevin) Long, Giant’s Lake; Denise MacPhie, Antigonish; sons: Father Allan MacPhie, Havre Boucher and Ronald Joseph, Antigonish; his former wife, Catherine MacPhie, Antigonish; sisters: Joan MacEachern, Antigonish; Dottie Fox, Frankfort, Ill., Ann MacDonald, Arisaig, Gladys MacGillivray, William’s Point; brother: Harold Jimmy, of Cape George; grandchildren: Kyle, Katie, and Scott, Ashley, Jennifer and Jeffery.He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Mary Louise; brothers: Leonard and Billy; twin sister, Janet Rose Murphy.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 pm Sunday, August 16th and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Monday, August 17th in the C, L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 am in St. Ninian’s Cathedral, Antigonish with Father Allan MacPhie presiding. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Ninian’s Parish or St. Ninian’s Cemetery Fund.
